Wilderness Serra Cafema

Wilderness Serra Cafema is one of the most remote camps in Namibia. Set under verdant trees on the banks of the Kunene River, the camp looks across to Angola. Here, guests can truly disconnect, unwind, and relax to the sound of rushing water, while exploring the seemingly endless horizon of the Namib Desert.

The area is a sanctuary for wildlife, with the river creating a verdant oasis amidst the stark desert landscape. The Kunene River supports a rich diversity of wildlife, from desert-adapted oryx and springbok to fearsome Nile crocodiles, tiny desert chameleons, and colourful birds. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy spotting species like Burchell's courser and the Benguela long-billed lark, and reptile lovers will appreciate the endemic desert-plated lizard and tiny desert chameleons. The Ozonganda (the “main area”) offers spectacular views over the Kunene River, making it the perfect setting for enjoying local cuisine and sharing stories of the day.

Guests at Wilderness Serra Cafema can immerse themselves in a variety of unique and contrasting experiences. The camp offers adrenaline-rushing quad bike adventures, guided nature drives, and walks among fascinating geological formations. Seasonal boating on the Kunene River provides a unique perspective of the landscape. Additionally, visitors have the rare opportunity to meet a Himba community, Namibia’s last semi-nomads, and learn about their ancient way of life. This authentic engagement offers an enriching cultural experience, providing insights into their traditions and way of life.

Wilderness Serra Cafema operates on land leased from the Marienfluss Conservancy, a 300,000-hectare tract primarily owned by the Himba people. The camp supports the community through educational programs, skills transfers, employment opportunities, and continuous nutritional aid. This partnership aims to protect one of the most untouched places on Earth while providing support and opportunities to the local people. Wilderness Serra Cafema combines luxury with nature, adventure with tranquillity, and cultural immersion with conservation, creating a truly unforgettable experience for its guests.
